Knockhill and Rounds 6 & 7 of the National Superstock 600 Championship. James had success at this circuit the previous year and had good confidence coming into the event.
Free Practice
James was P1 for the first 5 laps of the session, but the old set of tyres which were used in the bike due to cut backs on the funds wore out after this time and James has a massive moment sending him off track, it was clear by the state of the tyres that he could go no faster and fell back to 29th place on a 54:519. The tyres used had done both Qualifying 2 at Donington Park and Practice at Snetterton.
Qualifying 1
With a new set of rubber on the bike it showed how desperatly wrong the suspension settings were on the bike once a faster pace was run.
The rear end seemed solid and was making it extremely hard to get power to the floor, this caught James out resulting in a highside early on, James got the bike back to pitlane but was forced to get a fit to ride note from the medical centre before he was allowed out.
James sprinted got checked out and finally got back out on track but only managed a time of 53:691 which put James in 32nd place.
Qualifying 2
Unfortunatly just 5 minutes before the session there was a sudden down poor over Knockhill, only a few individuals ventured out in the rain to get wet practice knowing they would not better their earlier qualifying times.
But with 10 minutes the sun was out and the track was dry and James entered the track to get a better spot on the grid.
The whole set up of the handling was changed with the bike, and James felt very comfortable on the Yamaha.
James was fastest in the session, jumping up 15 positions to 17th place on lap 10 on a 53:212, but the level of grip on the circuit was uncertain all the way round where the rain had washed across the tarmac in certain areas. This caught James out on lap 11. The rear came around off the throttle at carlube corner resulting in a huge highside.
James would suffer a broken leg whilst being thrown through the gravel and would not compete in the rest of the meeting despite his valiant efforts.
James suffered 6 or 7 breaks to his right tibia in his leg, and was operated on in Dunfermline Hospital. He is suspected to be out for the majority of the year with a possibility of contesting one of the last rounds of the championship.
